Why we write...

Georgian Art Platform is a blog conceived by Ellene Kapanadze and Lika Tarkhan-Mouravi. The aim of the blog is to introduce 'the Georgian Art'  to an English speaking audience. We aim to inform and keep the reader up to date with the current developments and trends in the Georgian art market.

According to the Financial Times 'Central Asia and the Caucasus is the latest region to pique the appetite of the art world. As failing auction prices for contemporary art from China, Turkey and the Middle East hint at satiation, salesrooms and dealers are looking to the least discovered territory as the next big thing".

We will keep you posted about the upcoming auctions and their results, about existing galleries and newly opened art spaces in Caucasus, and about the artists and their works in the region. If you have a specific interest in Georgian art or are generally interested in emerging art markets, do follow us.

We understand that the term  'Georgian Art' is slightly ambiguous and bears a certain level to limitation, therefore we found it necessary to explain the term and establish it as a broader concept that includes the arts that is associated with Georgia, might it conceived by an artist who lives in the country or an artist who was educated in Georgia or an artist who refers to herself/himself as a Georgian artist.
